Gotta Catch ‘Em All 30 Day Pokémon Challenge – Day 9 and 10

My apologies Trainers, for not posting yesterday. I was way too tired to even consider writing and from past experience there is no point me trying to force it. So, you get a double feature today!

Returning to the challenge, the two topics for today – Day 9 and 10 are mirrors of each other. Day 9, my favourite Pokémon type, and 10, my least favourite type.

Let’s start with my favourite – Fire. I’ve always been drawn to the element of Fire, despite not really enjoying the heat, slightly terrified of the possibilty of a house fire at all times, and being an Earth Zodiac sign. However, Fire type Pokémon are largely my favourites – Charizard and Cyndaquil are both Fire type and both have appeared in this challenge. Fire possesses great opportunity – the opportunity to destroy also brings the opportunity to bring life. There’s some pretty neat Pokémon designs for Fire types too, especially if you include all the Pokémon that are half Fire. It isn’t necessarily the most prevalent or powerful type, and picking Charmander as your starter in Red and Blue/Green made for a bit of a grind for the first Gym, but I usually always have a Fire type around in my party.

Ok, let’s get away from the heat for a while and consider what my least favourite type is. It is the type of pink and fluffy Pokémon, and was only introduced to the series with Generation VI, Pokémon X and Y. This is probably partly why I dislike it – it’s not something that is linked to Pokémon in my memories and experiences with the series. Many Normal types were changed to Fairy for whatever reason – including some of the Galarian Pokémon such as Galarian Weezing, which doesn’t make much sense to me. In the trading card game, Fairy type has been axed as of the Sword and Shield expansions, with Fairy types being converted to Psychic. This is a little confusing as the Fairy types were largely Normal types to start with. This makes it seems that Fairy type was just a reaction to not having anything immune to Dragon types and not really to be taken seriously.

And there you have it, my opinions on a couple of different Pokémon types. Tomorrow I should be back on track and will introduce you to my favourite Pokémon from the last mainline game I played – White 2.
